Your Next Team Member Is Ready To Start Today
Oct 15, 2026
Imagine being able to hire a new team member today.
Someone who can work from anywhere, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and costs a fraction of what you'd normally pay to employ someone.
Someone who can take on administration, keep track of information, help manage operations, analyse your numbers and challenge your thinking.
Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
Well, that team member is already available.
It's AI.
And yet most farm owners are still using it like a smarter version of Google.
We open ChatGPT or Claude, ask a question, get an answer and close it again. Maybe we've learnt a few tricks with prompts and we're getting better answers, but we're still doing most of the work ourselves.
We're treating AI like a search engine rather than a member of our team.
Imagine hiring a great farm manager and giving them no induction, no financials, no business plan and no access to the systems they need to do their job.
Then expecting them to perform.
We wouldn't do it.
Yet that's exactly what we're doing with AI.
Over the past few months, we've been doing a lot of work on how we can integrate AI into our own business and help our members do the same.
And one of the biggest lessons we've learnt is that better AI isn't about better prompts. It's about better data, context and access.
And there's an important catch here.
AI is only as good as the information we give it.
Through our benchmarking and the work we do with farm businesses, we regularly see just how poor data capture and reporting can be across agriculture.
Stock numbers that aren't reconciled, financials that don't accurately reflect business performance, machinery maintenance records that aren't kept up to date and important information that exists only in someone's head.
For years we've been talking about the importance of improving these things so farm owners can make better decisions.
But AI has just made the payoff from good data significantly greater.
Because when we combine accurate, current data with AI's ability to analyse information, identify patterns and challenge our thinking, we have the potential to build a level of management capability that previously would have been out of reach for many farm businesses.
And the opposite is also true.
Feed AI poor information and it can give you a very convincing answer that's completely wrong.
Garbage in. Gospel out.
That's why data is the foundation. Context helps AI understand our business and goals, while access allows it to find information and start doing the work.
Get these things right and we can move beyond asking questions to delegating actual work.
It’s a big part of what we’ll be working through at the workshop next week.
Imagine having AI working alongside your team to:
- Keep track of the latest commodity prices, market information and industry developments, bringing you what's relevant without having to go searching for it.
- Remove hours of repetitive data entry by capturing information from invoices, emails, reports and other records.
- Track machinery hours, plan preventative maintenance and help keep equipment serviced before something breaks.
- Keep on top of compliance requirements, organise records and flag when inspections, registrations or documentation need attention.
- Prepare financial reports, monitor cash flow and help identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Coordinate tasks, prepare meetings, follow up outstanding actions and keep projects moving.
And much of this work can happen while we're out in the paddock, spending time with family or getting on with the other things that need our attention.
Of course, it needs the right systems, reliable information, clear instructions and appropriate oversight. Just like any other member of our team.
But the opportunity is enormous.
What if we could significantly increase the management capability of our farm businesses without continually adding more people, overheads and complexity?
That's exactly what we're going to be exploring at our AI workshop next week.
We'll work through how to properly induct AI into your farm business, why getting your data right matters more than ever, how to give AI the context and access it needs, and how to identify the jobs you can start handing over.
Not just theory. Practical ways to start making AI a productive part of your team.
Because the real opportunity isn't to become better at chatting with AI.
It's to get AI doing more of the work, so we can spend more time on the things that really matter.
If you're ready to move beyond experimenting with AI and start putting it to work in your farm business, we'd love to have you join us next week.
